When Fear Is Disguised As Preparation

One insight. One thought from a great mind. One shift you can make. All built around one question: What is the difference between good and great?

ONE INSIGHT

When Fear Is Disguised As Preparation.

This is a pattern I see a lot with high-achievers. Making plans and being overly prepared often times feels responsible and like the smart thing to do. But what I have also noticed is that preparation sometimes isn't strategic. It's actually the armor we wear, to protect ourselves from facing the fear we have of failing at the very thing we are preparing for!

Vision based preparation is about getting ready for future success. Fear based preparation is about avoiding the very thing you know you must do to move forward but keep prolonging. The question then isn't whether you are ready. The question is when are you going to stop using preparation as the excuse to why you are not facing your fear and taking action toward the vision you have for your life...

ONE THOUGHT FROM A GREAT MIND

"The mind is the software that runs the brain (the hardware). Most of us have not formally trained our mind." -Michael Gervais, Sports Psychologist

Why this matters to you: Elite performers train their bodies obsessively. But the gap between good and great isn't always physical - it's psychological. Those who treat their mindset like a muscle are the ones who make the leap.

ONE SHIFT

Moving from Fear based to Vision based preparation.

Take one area where you've been "Over-preparing" or "Over-analyzing"

Ask yourself:

  • If I am honest, what has my preparation been protecting me from?
  • What would my preparation look like if I was certain this would work?
  • What is one action this week that moves me toward my vision?
