Rethinking Goals

Uncategorized Apr 21, 2026

Most people believe that goals are destinations. I used to believe that too. But the more time I spend around high performers, the more I see a simple paradox: What most people think about achievement is often backwards...

We're taught that a goal is something "out there" in the future that we chase until we reach it. But a powerful shift happens when you see goals in the following way:

A goal is a place to come from, not a place to get to.

When you treat goals this way, they stop being distant finish lines and start being your daily starting point. That changes everything about how you show up.

Here's what it looks like in real life:

  • If you are a coach: You don't coach toward championships someday. You coach from the standard of a champion every single day.
  • If you are an athlete: You don't train to "become" elite. You train as someone who already belongs at that level.
  • If you are a leader: You don't wait to lead until you get the title. You lead now, from the identity of a leader worth following.

When you come from your goal instead of chasing it, it shapes your psychology, choices, decisions, behaviors and habits. It quietly charts your path and becomes the starting point for the elevated version of yourself you must become to get that which you desire.

So here is a simple reflection for today:

  1. Think of one goal that really matters to you right now.
  2. Ask: "If I had already become the person who achieved this, how would I show up today?"
  3. Choose one action that matches that identity, and do it!

I am always rooting for you on your success journey...

Choose to make today a GREAT day and always choose to Live Life 2 The Max!
