Have you ever jumped out of a plane before? I have and it was one of the scariest but most exhilarating experiences I have ever had. But that is not why I am writing this to you!
Whenever you jump out of an airplane you need a parachute, and a parachute only works when it is open. Obvious I know, but true. What is not as obvious is how the same principle works for our mindset.
Just as a parachute only works when it is open, our minds work best when it is open as well. Open-mindedness is an amazing quality to have because it opens us up to the possibility that life possesses. When we live with a closed mindset, we are closing doors to opportunities before they have opened. Opportunities that could change the course of our life forever...
A movie that relates to the idea of an open v closed mindset is "Yes Man". The main character, Carl Allen is a bank loan officer stuck in a rut with a negative outlook on life. After attending a motivational event (that he did not want to attend) he commits to a promise of answering YES to every opportunity that presents itself in his life! The rest of the movie is about all the events that transpire as a result of this promise. I won't spoil the movie if you have not seen it, but as you can imagine, Carl's life radically changes! The reason it changes is because the word YES forced him to be open-minded and open the door of possibility.
Now I am not saying you have to say YES to everything in your life, I am simply encouraging you to be open to the possibility of what saying YES can offer you...
For the longest time I automatically said NO because of the fear I had when I thought about the experience of skydiving. Over time I have become more open-minded about trying new things that can take me out of my comfort zone. Well, the next time I had the thought about the possibility of jumping out of a plane from 10,000ft, like Carl Allen in the movie, I had a different answer - YES!
I can still remember that day free falling through the sky at 120mph, and then pulling on the cord to open up my parachute. When it opened, it was a physical representation of the shift I had also made in my mind to be open-minded to the possibilities that life provides!
I BELIEVE IN YOU!
Choose to make today a GREAT day and always choose to Live Life 2 The Max!
